Using Basic Search Operations

    Running a Basic Search


      Use the following procedure to initiate a basic word search.

      On Knowledge Builder power tools tabs, click the Search tab.

      Confirms that the Search tab is open in the topic window.

        If Basic Search is visible on the Search tab instead of Advanced Search, you are in the advanced word search mode. Click Basic Search to activate the basic word search mode.

      In the Search box, type desired term you want to search the contents for.

      Identifies the term to be the focus of the search.

      On the Search tab, click the Search button.

      The integral status bar tracks the progess of the search.

        The results of the search are listed as positive hits after a search operation is completed. Move the cursor over a topic in the Hit list to initiate a pop-up message that shows the title of the book that the topic belongs to.

      Once status bar indicates that search is completed, scroll the Hit list to locate the topic that most likely includes the data you are searching for and double-click the topic.

      Opens the corresponding topic contents in the content window.

      Scroll the contents in the content window to find the highlighted keyword in the text.

      Keyword hits are highlighted in text.

        Click the Locate in Contents button to:

      • Open the Contents tab.
      • Display the same topic contents in the contents window.
      • Expand the bookset hierarchy to reveal the book that contatins the displayed topic contents.

        This lets you quickly determine the context of the displayed page from the search. However, if the content is in a book that is currently not listed for the contents selected in the Show By box, a link not found message will be generated. In this case, select the appropriate contents in the Show By box.
        Click the Search tab to continue viewing your current search results.

      Repeat Steps 4 and 5 to view search results in other topics in the Hit list

      Repeat the procedure to initiate a new search.
